We want to normalize serving as part of following Jesus, not something we do in addition to following Jesus.
Starting in March, we’re making some changes where serving on Sunday is going to be one of the rhythms of the regional networks, just like Neighborhood Dinners are.
You can learn more about this shift by watching this video, or by reading through the Q&A below.
-
Our regional networks are the human element in each of our ministry regions and the backbone of our church. They enable relational ministry and make us a collective church.
Within each network, there is a Regional Ministry Team comprised of a Regional Ministry Coordinator, Regional Connect Lead, and a Regional Care Lead, helping to facilitate ministry efforts in the region.
These efforts include our connect process, our care process, helping people to find discipleship groups, inviting people to participate in Neighborhood Dinners, and to now serve together on Sundays.
-
Yes. Whatever your current level of involvement and commitment, we want you to experience a sense of belonging, benefit from our regional ministry efforts, and be able to contribute to them as well.
We see it as our duty to invite you and include you. Whether you take us up on that or not, is going to be up to you.
-
The regional network you are a part of is based on where you live.
It became necessary to map out regions to serve as a guide and help us include people in specific networks.
Generally speaking, the current makeup of regions across the Westside is as follows:
North of the 10 fwy = Sawtelle/Westwood regional network.
South of the 10 fwy and north of Ballona Creek = Palms/Mar Vista regional network.
South or east of Ballona Creek = South Culver/Ladera Heights regional network.
-
As it says at the top of the page, we’re wanting to normalize serving as part of following Jesus, not something we do in addition to following Jesus.
The church is something we’re a part of, and each of us can contribute and help make our church a truly collective church.
Our intent is to invite people in each regional network to serve who consider themselves a part of our church family.
If that’s you, we think it’s reasonable to ask you to lend a hand and help facilitate our Sunday services and serve our guests.
But if that’s not you, and you’re new to Collective and prefer to take your time and remain on the fringe for now, you’re welcome to do that. We have no expectation that you will serve. Just don’t be alarmed when you receive the invites to serve that go out to the entire regional network.
-
Regional networks will serve every three weeks on a predictable rhythm.
Here’s the first Sunday for each network:
March 5 - South Culver/Ladera
March 12 - Palms/Mar Vista
March 19 - Sawtelle/WestwoodThis is the rotation we will maintain for the foreseeable future.
-
On the Monday before a regional network is scheduled to serve, everyone in that network will receive an invitation to sign up. It will go out via text AND email so you can respond however you prefer.
All you need to do is accept the invitation to serve. It’s that simple.
If we haven’t heard from you by Wednesday, a reminder will go out that morning asking you to sign up.
Once we know who’s serving we can build a plan for Sunday, and discern if we need to cut some teams for the day.
-
On Sundays, people will be assigned to a team for the day.
Each team will have a Team Lead that will be appointed to coordinate efforts and provide training.
Team assignments will be made in consideration of multiple factors including who is available to serve, their level of training and experience, where we simply need help, and how we can best serve those attending our Sunday services.
Flexibility, humility, and a willingness to serve others as an act of worship to Jesus will be the name of the game.
There is a more involved process for those wanting to serve in kids ministry and worship ministry, and we would ask you to express your desire to serve in those areas.
-
The call time for everyone will be 8am and your regional network will facilitate the whole gathering from set-up to tear-down.
-
We are encouraging parents to have their school-age children serve alongside them and to see this as an opportunity for discipleship with their kids.
For safety reasons, your children will need to remain with you and under your supervision until you check them into the children’s ministry at 9:45am.
-
If we don’t have enough people to serve on that Sunday, we will have to cut ministry areas for the day.
-
The call time for everyone will be 8am. We’ll grab a cup of coffee, rally everyone together, and have a time of prayer.
Then we’ll empty out the storage room, followed by setting up kids ministry together. Once that is done, everyone will be assigned to a team to facilitate other aspects of the gathering.
After the service, we’ll tear everything down together and pack it all away. Our agreement with our venue stipulates that we be out by 12:45.
