Draw Near — starting October 25
Once a month at Collective Church, we set aside an evening for prayer and worship, which we call Draw Near. The intention is just that: to draw near to our God, who has promised to draw near to us in return.
But every fall, we take what we normally do once a month and stretch it across multiple weeks. And it all begins this Sunday, October 25!
During these weeks, we invite special guest preachers whose hearts beat for the presence of God. We gather for prayer and worship every Sunday evening, fast together on Tuesdays, and break our fasts around the table at our Neighborhood Dinners. And throughout it all, we're encouraging everyone to intentionally seek more of God in their everyday lives.
This isn't just another teaching series to us. This is our purpose, amplified. We're creating intentional space to seek the face of God, to deepen our love for Him, and to allow our hearts to become more and more His.
We're asking our entire church to join us over these next four weeks, to disrupt their normal spiritual routines and intentionally place themselves in spaces of holy discomfort.
If fasting intimidates you, start by fasting one meal on the first Tuesday. The following week, try two. If your prayer life has been inconsistent, make a commitment to grow it over these four weeks. Start with ten minutes a day, then twenty, and build from there. Try praying on your knees. Come forward to the carpets during worship for the first time. If you've never served in the church, take a step of faith and get involved.
The point isn't to impress God with our spiritual activity. The point is to make room for more of Him. To interrupt the patterns of our lives that have kept us distracted, comfortable, or spiritually complacent, and to cultivate a deeper hunger for His presence.
So, church, let's do everything we can over these next four weeks to draw near to God. And let's discover together just how faithful He is to His promise:
"Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you." James 4:8
