Discuss

  • Bartimaeus was blind and begging by the roadside. Things were tough for ol’ Bart. Talk through this. If they don’t know what a beggar is, explain it. They have likely been exposed to people experiencing homelessness who are like Bart in the story. How should we treat these people?

  • Bart had heard about Jesus and how he had healed people. Ask them how this could have happened especially during this time when there weren’t phones or computers. The people would have had to be telling this news to others. We should be doing that too by sharing the good news of Jesus with others.

  • Bart starts to call out to Jesus and people tell the blind man to be quiet. How would you feel if someone told you to be quiet when you needed help?

  • Jesus asks Bart what he wants and Bart tells Jesus he wants to see again and so Jesus heals him instantly. Do we believe that Jesus can answer our prayers/requests? Do you believe that he can heal?

Games

  • Blind Guessing

Parents, find a bunch of items and don’t show them to your child(ren). Then blindfold them. Have them touch each item and guess what it is.

  • Blind Pictionary

First play a round of Pictionary normally. Then, blindfold each player when it is their turn to draw something. Make sure they know what item they are drawing before blindfolding them. Now, have them draw blindfolded. The blindfolded pictures will probably be pretty funny!
