Transfiguration. That is a really big word!
Can you repeat that word?
What do you think it means? *Hint: Think about transformer toys.
Transfiguration means that something or someone changes into something more beautiful.
Can you think of anything that changes from something kind of normal to something more beautiful?
A butterfly is kind of like this. What about in the story from the part of the bible you just read?
Who transforms into something more beautiful?
How did Jesus change?
Peter James and John could see that Jesus was God’s son. That must have been amazing to see, don’t you think?
What did the voice out of the cloud say?
Who do you think that voice was?
God said, “This is my beloved Son; listen to him.” God was trying to show them who Jesus really was…the Son of God who they should listen to! Okay, sooo we can’t see Jesus. I mean, he’s not sitting on the couch with you is he?! So how do we know what he’s saying to us?
What do you think? How do we know what Jesus says?
If you said, look in the bible, you were right! This is the perfect place to look! There are all sorts of stories in it called parables where Jesus is trying to teach us something. He says a lot about how we should act and how to treat other people.
The Bible is the place where we can learn about Jesus and how to listen to him, but sometimes the world is such a noisy place that we can’t always hear him.
Take a moment and be extra quiet and listen. What do you hear?
Did you hear something you didn’t realize was making a noise? Like birds chirping or cars driving?
If you stop and take the time to listen, sometimes you’ll hear something you didn’t realize was there. To hear Jesus, we have to stop, be quiet and listen.
He wants to tell us all sorts of things like how to love him or how to make good choices, but we have to listen.
When you read the bible alone or with your family, think about what Jesus is trying to tell you and listen to him!
