  • Have you ever been in a boat?

  • Have you ever been in a storm? What was it like?

    • Maybe watch some videos of heavy rain and storms with lightning and thunder together to get an idea of what a storm is like.

  • Can you imagine being caught in a boat in a storm? Would that be scary? Why?

  • Who was in the boat with the disciples?

Jesus was in the boat with the men the whole time and he was taking a nap!! Can you believe that?

  • Read Mark 4:39-41 together again.

  • What happened when the men woke Jesus up?

Jesus simply told the wind and the waves to stop AND THEY DID!! The disciples in the boat were amazed. They realized that Jesus was more than just a good teacher. He really was the Son of God!

When was the last time you told the wind to stop and it did?! Never, right?! We don’t have that kind of power, but Jesus does! It kind of make Jesus like superhero, but the absolute most AMAZING superhero.

  • Sometimes things in life make us afraid. Are there things that make you afraid? What are they?

  • Do you know that just like Jesus was with the disciples in the boat during the storm, He is ALWAYS with you?

  • How does it make you feel that you have the greatest SUPERHERO that ever lived on your team taking care of you?

Jesus is ALWAYS with us. He’s in our boat even when things are scary!

Additional Activities this Week

  • Get a clear water bottle and fill halfway with water. Shake it around to show what the storm may have looked like in the story. Stop shaking and let the water settle to show how it may have looked after Jesus told the waves and wind to stop. If you are feeling extra crafty, dye the water blue with food coloring and maybe even throw a tiny boat in there.

  • If you have the Jesus Storybook Bible, read through “Captain of the Storm” before bedtime.

  • During bath time, have child(ren) tell you the story and act it out with some of their toys in the bathtub. It will be extra fun if you have a toy boat. Flicker the lights and bang on a drum to make it seem like a storm. Get into it and have fun!
