In the story from today, an angel visits the shepherds and tells them something.
Read Luke 2:10-11
What did the angel tell them?
The angel told them that he brought good news of GREAT JOY for all people and that news was that Jesus was here! Did you read that? GREAT JOY FOR ALL PEOPLE!
Do you know what joy means?
If you said being happy, you’re pretty close! Joy is even better! It means being happy with what you have. It means being happy even when things are not going great. This sounds hard to do right?!
What are some things you are thankful for?
Who are some people you are thankful for? Why?
Now, how do you feel after doing that? Sad? Mad? Happy?
I have a pretty good feeling you said, happy! One of the ways that we can be joyful even when things are hard is by thinking about what we are thankful for.
What are some things we can be thankful to God for?
If one of the answers you gave was Jesus, you read my mind!! How did you do that?! God gave the whole world a really amazing gift by sending Jesus to die for our sins. That is what the angel was telling the shepherds. If this were happening today, I like the think the angel would have said something like,
“Hey, you guys! Yeah, you shepherds! Stop freaking out. I came to tell you that God has a great big ol’ present for you and the whole world to share. Don’t worry, there’s plenty of it to go around. It’s better than anything you could ever imagine. Even on your saddest day, it’s gonna make you soooooo happy! So go check it out and then tell everyone else about it! K, bye!!”
Jesus is the best thing to ever happen to us and he can bring us joy even on our saddest and hardest of days! All we have to do is spend time with him. We can talk to him. We can sing to him. Andddd, we can share this GREAT JOY by telling others about him! Spread the JOY!!
