In the Bible, God gave messages to the prophets to give to the people. They were sort of like special messengers and Isaiah was one these prophets.

  • What did Isaiah tell the Israelites?

Isaiah told them that God PROMISED to send them a really special gift, a rescuer who would come to save them from their sins.

  • Who is this rescuer?

If you said, JESUS, you were right! Isaiah told the Israelites this thousands of years before Jesus would actually be born. WHOA, thousands of years is a really, really, REALLY long time to wait!!

Think about a time you got a really, really good present.

  • How long did you have to wait for the present? How did it feel to wait?

  • Was the present worth waiting for?

  • Did someone promise they would get you that present?

  • How did it feel when that person kept their promise?

  • If that person promised to get you something again, would you believe them? Would you remember how they kept their promise before?

God PROMISED to give the Israelites a really special present, Jesus, but then they had to wait for him. It was probably hard to wait, but God made many PROMISES to them before and he always keeps his PROMISES. They just had to remember.

He PROMISED to rescue them out of Egypt from the mean Pharaoh and he did! He PROMISED to take them into the promised land and he did!

The Bible is full of God’s PROMISES to us too! He PROMISES to always love us. He PROMISES to never leave us and he PROMISES that one day, Jesus will come back to be with us.

At Christmas, we can be thankful that God sent us Jesus to save us from our sins and remember that God always keeps his PROMISES even if we have to wait for a while! His gifts are always worth the wait!

Isaiah’s Message

Make your own scroll with Isaiah’s message on it. Follow this DIY HERE if you have paper and paper towel tubes handy or make one with popsicle sticks as seen in the other image as an example.

Have child(ren) draw out Isaiah’s message of coming Savior, write out Isaiah 9:6 or both. It could just be a picture of Jesus in a manger. Get creative with it!
