Do you know what the word OBEY means?
The word, obey, means to do what you are asked to do or to follow the rules.
What are some of the rules at your house?
Which rules are easy to obey?
Which ones are hard?
As a kid, it may seem like there are a whole lot of rules to follow, right?! Clean your room, eat all of your dinner, do your homework, don’t tease your brother! Ahhh, sooo many rules! But, there are usually good reasons for rules.
In the video you watched, what did the kids say are the 3 reasons you should obey your parents?
It’s okay if you can’t remember! I’ll help you out!
#1 We obey because the Bible says to.
The rule to obey your parents is soooo important that God put it in the Bible! In fact, it’s soo important that he made it one of the 10 commandments.
If you haven’t heard of those, they are the most important rules that God wants his people to follow.
#2 We obey because it pleases God.
Did you know that when you obey your parents, it makes God happy? Say what?! Raise your hand if you want to make God happy!! I do, I do!
And it makes God happy when we obey him too!
#3 We obey because it protects us.
All rules help protect us. Why do you think your parents stop at red lights when they drive? It’s so they don’t run into other cars. The rule to stop at a red light protects your family from getting into a car crash.
You parents have rules because they love you and want to protect you.
God is the same. He has rules for the people that love him because he wants to protect them from danger.
If you are a kid and you love Jesus, God wants you to obey your parents. If you have a hard time obeying your parents this week, just ask God to help you. He wants to help you OBEY!

Keys to Obedience
Go through each key and talk about how to obey in each way written on the keys. For example, what does it mean to obey RIGHT AWAY?
The acronym, I-C-E, is sometimes used as well to encourage obeying: Immediately, Cheerfully and Exactly. You can go through this with them if it is easier to remember.
